This makes the third time, and apologies for the second time coming later than we anticipated. A little bit of miscommunication, so our big Easter episode didn't drop until after Easter, but we are seizing the tools of production. I'm going to attempt to put these out by myself moving forward and just kind of keep ourselves on a timelier schedule. But all the thanks to Whitney and Bibbs for hosting us on the Critically Acclaimed Network for our first two episodes. And hopefully you found us over there and then came to wherever we're going to live. I'm going to figure this out. I did want to provide a quick update since our last episode. We on our last episode tried the Chili Lime Mango Peeps. And since then, we were able to try another peeps flavor that we actually mentioned in our previous episode. Henry, do you want to fill everybody in on that?

Uh yes, actually. We have tried, in addition to the chili lime and mango peeps, remember in our episode, we also mentioned Pop-Tart and Doc Dr. Pepper peeps. And uh we actually received the Pop-Tart peeps for Easter. Uh in fact, I can go get them.

And we don't need to taste them again on air, but we did have the opportunity to try those frosted strawberry Pop-Tart flavored peeps. And you know what? They were quite good as well. Um, we obviously had them considerably after Easter because we got them on Easter and we only tried them last night. So they were a little stale.

Although I'm not sure if that was by design or not.

I know. These were very different peeps in that they were they were pink all the way through. Uh they were they were purely frosted strawberry Pop-Tart, or really, it was kind of interesting. Like they were good. I wouldn't say they were as good as the chili line mango. And I think my problem with them is yes, they tasted like the filling of a strawberry Pop-Tart, but that really, when you isolate it, is just strawberry. So I didn't really get a lot of Pop-Tart from it, but it was a really good strawberry pee. What did you think, Henry?

Um, honestly, here's my opinion on like the text here. It's weirdly like, so you know how you said that it's like not marshmallow, pretty much? I feel like they took the gelatin out of the marshmallow. And like because you squish a normal peep, eventually it will return to its original shape. You squish one of these, it doesn't.

No, I I I hear that. There is something weird about the structure of the peep. And again, I'm willing to give it a pass because it might have been stale, but yeah, there's just something about it didn't hit quite right. Like it it's hard to quantify my complaints, but yeah, it didn't feel like a peep, it didn't taste like a peep. Maybe we've we've gone too far afield.

That would be like peep on peep, like peep flavored peep. Oh, I mean a regular peep is a peep-flavored peep.

No, a regular peep is a marshmallow flavored peep, or a sugar-flavored peep, depending on how you look at it.

Uh it's a peep, but they took a peep and they made it hard and they crushed it and they turned that into the dust.

So they ran that through the depositor?

And they deposited a a new peep in a peep to be the filling of the next peep?

Well, not even the filling, like the dust. But yeah, you can do the filling too.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, that you would like take a peep and make it the filling of another peep.

I was saying you wait for it to get like hard or like you freeze it or something, and then you crush it, and you turn that like dust, and then you sprinkle that as the dust.

Would a peep work as a freeze-dried candy? You know how that's been a trend for a minute, like people like take their Skittles and put them in the freezer?

Yeah, I I guess that's no longer a trend because now the corporate world has caught on to it and it's not as cool anymore, but could you do that with a peep? Could you freeze-dry a peep?

Maybe. The thing that I'm honestly more interested in is freeze-drying, like, MMs. Because how do you freeze-dry chocolate? Also sort of works as a segue to what we're doing.

Exactly, thank you. We're not here to talk about peeps today, though we did want to give you an update. We are here to talk about MMs. Namely, we have an MM's flavor vote again!

Three flavors! One of them stays as an official one if it wins all the votes. Yay.

For for those of you who may not be familiar, MM's introduced the concept of the flavor vote in 2016. And it seems like every time they've done a flavor vote in the past, it's been kind of consistent in the flavors on offer. So 2016 was all about nut flavors.

I don't know why I said that with such conviction. Nut.

But all the flavors were tied to nut. So your options were coffee nut, honey nut, and chili nut. And the ultimate winner that got kind of an extended run was coffee nut. I will say I got to play along in that first MM Slaver vote in 2016. I actually got to try all three flavors, and they were all good. I remember being totally fine with coffee nut winning, although chili nut was really good too. If they ever wanted to give Chili Nut a second chance run, I'm here for it. But the first winner was coffee nut, then they skipped a year, and then they came back with a crunchy MM flavor version.

I feel like that probably was around the time that they introduced Crunchy MMs, because crunchy was not a thing when I was a kid. They're pretty recent.

So please hold and I'm gonna Google some things, but I'm also gonna tell you about the 2018 flavor vote. So all of the flavors at that time were crunchy. So they had crunchy mint, crunchy raspberry, and crunchy espresso, which I think I loved those even more than the coffee nut. Like, bring those back. This is like a peepsy situation. Please bring back, please, please. MMs, please bring back crunchy espresso MMs. They were so good. Although I guess spiritually we're a little close to them. Because we do have caramel cold brew. And caramel cold brew is really good. But yeah, just looking up the history of crunchy here, I'm seeing crunchy cookie.

So Bobble Gum! Crispy MMs was released on May 8th, 1999, with orange as its spokes candy. I do want to get into spokes candies later. The bag wrapper used to be blue. Okay, fine. A new design was released on June 19th, 2015, with a light green wrapper. I'm looking at this light green wrapper, it's kind of ugly. This this variety of MMs was eventually discontinued in the US in 2005, however, due to popular demand, crispy MMs were reintroduced in 2015. Remained a mainstay flavor until 2022 when they were discontinued in the US yet again, seemingly in favor of the similar crunchy cookie variety. Crispy MMs are still sold outside of the US to this day. Uh so there you go. A little history lesson on crispy MMs. Apparently not so big here in America, but we can still get them overseas. So that's something to look out for next time we find ourselves in like the European Foods Mart or just overseas. Exactly.

But yeah, so it seems like the unifying thing about past MM flavor votes was all three flavors kind of centered around a theme. So 2016 was nut, uh, 2018 was crunchy, and then the last time they had a flavor vote prior to now was in 2019, and at that point we kind of went back to nut. Nut again? More nut? Get more nuts. But yeah, we're we're back to nuts, specifically peanut. So candidates were Thai coconut peanut, Mexican jalapeno peanut, and English toffee peanut.

I mean, like I feel like, again, spice and chocolate. I feel like they're two things that do not mix. I I'm not against it. Should have put that on the satellite we shot into space.

But yeah, the winner was English toffee peanut, which makes sense. Like, these are some pretty wild flavors that MM's put out there.

And then toffee. Toffee is pretty unique.

Who doesn't love toffee? Um, so what ends up happening with these flavor votes is the winner comes back. And they're not back forever, sadly. I don't think we still have like crunchy mint or coffee nut, but they get what they call an expanded run.

Or an extended run. Yeah, it's kind of a victory tour. So, you know, this those old crayon colors. This MM district won, and then they go and start a revolution in the other Eminem districts, and then they take a they purge a war on the Eminem Capitol, and wait a minute. Yeah, I hear uh Crunchy Mint's really good with a bow. Anyway, um but what's exciting about this flavor vote is one, it's the first time we've had one in seven years. The last time we had a flavor vote was 2019. And two, they kind of colored outside their own lines this time. The three MMs that are out there in the world are all under the header of the MM's bakery collection. But really, that gave them a blank canvas. Like, if you could imagine something being in a bakery, it could be an MM under this header. This does give us more to choose from other than nut.

Well, I do think this is a thing where every color is the same flavor. I don't think it's like you have to get all three colors to get like the pie experience. Although they they are nice in there.

Yeah, so the color scheme of these, because it is a mix of colors, is we have kind of a bright yellow. Ooh, there's some ASMR. I reached my hand into the bag.

And proceeded to touch all of BMM. Uh my hands are clean.

But yeah, it's like a bright yellow and a white, and then like kind of this pale, like it's pie crust color.

There we go. Like an eggshell color. So, you know, colors that make you think of a lemon meringue pie for sure. Um, and before we eat these, I just want to give a little background on each one and also just kind of give an overview here. So how how the flavor vote works is you go to mm's.com, which is mms.com, which I thought this was cute. It kind of looks like mms.com. But mms.com slash vote. And we have until May 15th to vote on the favorite flavor. The winner is going to be announced in late May, and then, like we said, the winning flavor will come back for an extended run in the fall. Um, these have been out online since January. Um, they first rolled out just online on MMM MMS.com. And then then and then they rolled into stores in late February. And this doesn't seem to be an exclusivity thing because they're everywhere. We got ours at Ralph's, but they were available at Target, at Walmart, at pretty much all your major retailers. Okay. So these are meant to all kind of fall under the banner of bakery-inspired treats. And the description from MMS.com is lemon meringue pie, and I quote, combines creamy white chocolate with a zesty twist of lemon.

It's white chocolate, which I got hype for that because I like white chocolate.

White chocolate is so good. Like it's not even really chocolate, but it's good.

I get that white chocolate is not chocolate. It's technically, is it technically cocoa butter? Is that what white chocolate is? It's cocoa butter and sugar. Yeah, it's like byproducts of chocolate, but technically not chocolate, even though we call it white chocolate.

Technically, the real like white chocolate is chocolate, but the percentage of cacao is like, see you know how like milk chocolate's like 50%? White chocolate is usually like 0.0165% cacao. Like nothing.

So I guess white chocolate is to chocolate like decaf coffee is to coffee, where it it's never zero, but it's such a trace amount, it's not gonna affect you. Like same with non-alcoholic beer. I don't think there's I don't think there's a non-alcoholic beer that's truly zero percent alcohol.

I and there's ones that definitely purport it, like Heineken does. There's 805 from Firestone. Um, but yeah, just some some critical consensus before we eat this flavor. By the way, I'm oh Henry, what do you want to say?

Uh somehow, two things really. First of all, somehow you managed to pull out exactly three of each color.

Uh, and second of all, so you know how when we smelled it from like here, it smelled like lemon meringue pie. If you like stick your head in the bag, it smells totally different, and I'm not sure if I like it.

It smells like drain cleaner. Yeah, it it smells very medicinal if you stay with that smell.

I just realized the one of them is eggshell colored, and the other two are white and yellow, which means they're all the colors of an egg, and it kind of smells like an egg.

Well, that kinda that's what meringue is. Uh meringue is egg whites that have been whisked and whisked and whisked until they have these stiff white peeps. And lemon did. And and you're able to achieve that stiffness by adding sugar. So this does evoke meringue visually. You're right. Um, I wanted to get a couple of critical consensus, like we usually do, and I went to two websites that tested all three flavors, and so that is Sporked and the Takeout. Um, I used to write for the takeout disclaimer, not a sponsor, not a sponsor. Um, Sporked really liked these. Um, they liked there was crispy rice in the center.

Spoilers, this is crispy MMs, baby! They brought them back! They brought them back! Question mark! They Trojan horsed the crispy MMs. Um, but yeah, they liked that they had that texture. Um, they said that they're nice and light and that they don't necessarily channel lemon meringue pie, but they like them anyway. Um, the takeout also agreed. Uh, they said it's got a nice punchy pop of citrus and that they're creamy and melty with a subtle crispness. Um, spoilers here, both Sporked and the Takeout found this to be their favorite flavor of the three. So we're kind of we're kind of front-loading ourselves potentially. Like if this ends up being our favorite, too. Um, I also want to point out I have been holding these MMs in my hand the whole time.

And they haven't melted. They haven't melted. That's a good sign. Most MMs will melt. Well, here's the real test pinch test. Just hold one like like like a pinching.

Oh, like try to make a pinch. That always melts it. Oh, that did melt it. But you know what? It wouldn't have melted in my hand if I just laid it here. You know, that used to be. I don't know if you know this, Henry.

Yeah, which I guess you have warmer hands and kind of everything than me.

It really tastes like lemon meringue pie. But I really do feel like we have set the bar incredibly high, starting with these.

Yeah, kinda. Like every once in a while you get like a peanut MM that's like missing the peanut.

There's definite inconsistency in the sizing of these MMs. Because some of them look like they're gonna be big old chonk ones.

Well, that might not give us a lot of clues though, because it's just gonna be like artificial lemon flavor and yellow number five.

So I guess if you like lemon, if you want to just lemon balm yourself, eat a big ol' handful. If you want the flavors to kind of reveal themselves and like kind of get the subtlety and the intricacies of it, kind of the the science of these flavors working together, like eat a smaller handful. But if you just really like pie, just like house a big ol' house the biggest amount of MMs you can put in your mouth.
